Chromebooks Unlikely to Launch in Australia in 2011

Despite earlier statements made by Samsung and Acer that Google Chromebooks would be available in Australia this year, it’s now extremely unlikely that the computers are tabled for shipment in the next few weeks.

Recall that a spokesperson from Samsung said, “Samsung Electronics Australia is planning to launch the Samsung Chromebook in the second half of 2011.”

Acer also noted that a launch date was targeted for “mid to late quarter 3” of 2011.

Even though Google has already obtained the Chromebook trademark for Australia, the company has not offered a launch date.

One of the Google Apps partners in Australia that we contacted said that they expect Chromebook shipments in early 2012.
