Google Building Chrome R&D Centre in Taiwan

Several reports from the Computex PC show in Taipei on May 31st, confirm that Google will be building a Research and Development facility in Taipei.

Google plans to hire local engineers to continue to improve on the Chrome operating system and foster more regional partnerships with OEMs as well as original design manufacturers (ODMs). New product features will be shared among the global OS team.

Reporters at the show were more curious about plans to incorporate Chrome on tablet PCs.

Sundar Pichai, Google’s senior vice president for Chrome, said to Reuters: “Chrome OS is a computer model designed with various form factors in mind, but we are entirely focused on the notebook form factor for now. We have no other plans at this time.”
